Beautiful beaches and pleasant back country make the little town of Monastir a very pretty resort, midway between the north and south of Tunisia.

The fishing port and souks bustle with cheerful activity while the ribat guards over the town: this superb medieval fortress, previously a kind of fortified Muslim monastery, is now a monument and museum which boast some remarkable ancient exhibits.

For golf enthusiasts, there are two 18-hole courses that wind between palms and olives groves and look out over the expanse of blue sea.
